- Location: La Vie (Private Penthouse) at the Wharf (88 District Square SW Washington DC 20024).
- Description: Evening will include awards recognizing Black Millennial leaders improving communities across the country. Complimentary Cocktail hour from 6pm-7pm Courtesy of D'usse, Patron & Purple Aisle. Ticket required. - Location: The Outrage (1722 14th St NW Washington DC).
- Description: This event will include the screening of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s film “Time for Ilhan” and discussion with the Congresswoman. RSVP required.
Saturday, September 14th:
- Black Millennials Town Hall: "Equity for 2020” (10:30am-12:30pm):
- Location: Walter E Washington Convention Center, Room 145 B, 801 Mt. Vernon Pl NW, Washington DC 20001. Sponsored by Congressman Donald McEachin, The Daniel Initiative, nFluence, and others TBD.
- Description: Black Millennials are a powerful and growing voice as they comprise 14% of Millennial and 25% of the Black populations in the United States. As the 2020 election approaches, Black Millennials will play a pivotal role in not only the Presidential election, but also Congressional, State, and Local elections. This interactive town hall will focus on the impact of current policies on this population and ways in which Black Millennials can leverage their voice and power to create equitable communities for years to come. Speakers will include Black Millennial Elected Officials, Community Organizers, and Leaders who are leading the movement for change across the country. Special guests include Congressional Black Caucus Members and 2020 Presidential candidates. Panelists: Black Millennial Elected Officials, Activists, and other Community Leaders. Special guests: Members of the Congressional Black Caucus, 2020 Presidential Candidates. Opening Remarks: Lea Webb, Former City Councilmember-Binghamton, NY (BMC Co-Chair) and Congressman Donald McEachin.
About BMC:
Black Millennial Convention (BMC) seeks to share and shed a light on policy issues impacting Black communities, with the goal of connecting millennials of African descent from across the country to increase black political leadership and inspire civic engagement. The BMC consists of Black millennial leaders in media, community activism, academia, policy and politics. This gathering in the nation’s capital will feature some of the country’s most leading millennial voices, such as Dr. Wes Bellamy, former Vice Mayor and current Councilman-Charlottesville, VA; Michigan State Representative Jewell Jones, and many others.
